Tactical Rifle Match Information:

New Days:  Fourth Sunday every month !!!
Where - Ranges 4 & 5
How Much -  $15.00
Activity Director - Scott Hammond
Time - 8:30 to Mid-Afternoon

Shooters who possess proficiency with shooting a rifle at stationary targets such as bulls-eyes, may want to try their skills at the next level; action shooting. Matches will consist of up to four stages simulating live situations and scenarios requiring the participant to engage several “bad guy” targets, from cover and concealment. Each stage or scenario will have pre-determined shooting locations and possibly several specified shooting positions (off-hand, prone, sitting, etc).  Movement and tactical and/or emergency reloads may also be required.

Scoring will be based on accuracy/shot placement and speed. Hits in center-of-mass and the ocular-cranial cavity, known as the “A-Zone” will constitute the best scoring, with speed through the scenario also being recorded. Priority is given to shot placement & accuracy, not speed. This constitutes the rule “You can’t miss fast enough to win”.

Equipment requirements include any centerfire rifle, eye/ear protection and no more than 150 rounds of safe ammunition per match. Factory ammunition is recommended; reloaded ammo is acceptable if it’s good quality with a minimum of miss-fires. For magazine-fed rifles, magazine pouches are also recommended, but using pockets is acceptable. Any method for carrying spare ammunition, including a belt pouch is OK. Magazines of any capacity are allowed, but there may be mandatory reloads that may reduce any higher-capacity advantage they may have. Slings or carry straps are recommended, but not required. Since prone position shooting will be utilized, especially during good weather, kneepads may be useful.

Each scenario will be set up so that neither open sight nor scoped rifles will have an advantage. Each will contain a precision component (where scopes have the advantage) and a close-quarters-battle (CQB) component (where open sights have the advantage). There will be two classes of competitors;

-         Semi-Auto Class: any detachable, magazine-fed or clip-fed, semi-automatic rifle.

-         Open Class: Any other action type (lever, bolt, slide, semi-auto with internal magazine) rifle

Proficient, experienced rifle shooters and novice rifle shooters are welcome and will be shooting and participating together. For the novice or inexperienced shooter, there will be a training session and low-level scenario during each match. Once the participant has demonstrated a learned skill in the safe use of the rifle in an action-based stage, they’ll be encouraged to shoot with the more experienced participants.

As with all activities at Chabot Gun Club, safe firearms handling will be stressed at all times, fun highly encouraged. Please join us.
